How to Choose Your Solar Kit Based on Your Energy Needs

Choosing a solar kit can seem complicated given the range of power levels and configurations available. This guide helps you identify the key criteria for selecting the kit that truly matches your needs, without overinvesting or undersizing your installation.

Step 1: List the appliances you want to power

The first step is to list the devices you want to run on solar energy: light bulbs, fans, TV, refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, computer, washing machine, water borehole pump… Each appliance has a different power draw, measured in watts (W).

Step 2: Estimate your daily usage time

The same appliance will consume more or less energy depending on how many hours a day it runs. A refrigerator running 24/7 doesn’t have the same needs as an air conditioner used only a few hours at night.

Step 3: Distinguish basic needs from comfort needs

Energy needs can be grouped into two categories:

  • Essential needs: lighting, ventilation, phone charging, television — covered by entry-level kits such as the 1 KVA Kit or the 2 KVA Kit.
  • Advanced comfort needs: continuous refrigeration, air conditioning, ironing, washing machine, water borehole pump — requiring more powerful kits such as the 6 KW, 8 KW or 12 KW Kits.

An individual looking to secure basic lighting and comfort for their home won’t have the same needs as a professional (workshop, small business, office) needing to guarantee business continuity. Step 5: Think about scalability

Some kits, like the 4 KW Kit, come in 1- or 2-battery versions. If your budget is tight today but your needs might grow, it’s sometimes wiser to start with a scalable configuration rather than switching systems entirely later.
